Case IH 1019 – Hitch / EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Controller: Load sensing pin 8V reference - voltage too low YES

Issue description

The 8-volt reference circuit that supplies power to the draft load sensing pins has dropped below the acceptable voltage threshold. This condition typically indicates a short to ground in the wiring harness or an internal short within one of the draft pin sensors.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • Farmall
  • Magnum Series
  • Puma Series
  • Maxxum Series
  • Steiger Series
  • Farmall Series
  • CX Series

Check the cause

  1. Disconnect the left and right draft load sensing pins one at a time to see if the 8V reference voltage returns to normal (if it returns, that specific pin is internally shorted).

  2. Inspect the chassis wiring harness running from the EDC/XCM controller to the rear hitch draft pins for chafed wires, pinched lines, or shorts to the tractor chassis (ground).

  3. Inspect the connectors at both the draft pins and the controller for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins that could pull the reference voltage down.

  4. Test the 8V reference output directly at the controller module to ensure the module itself has not failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Repair Wiring

If a short to ground is found in the chassis harness, repair the damaged wire and secure it away from pinch points.

  2. Replace or Bypass the Sensor

If a draft pin is internally shorted, remove the defective pin from the lower link and install a new OEM draft sensing pin. Alternatively, if the operator does not use the draft control function, install a Draft Load Sensing Pin Elimination Kit to bypass the system.

  3. Clear Codes

Clear the 1019 fault code from the system.

  4. Recalibrate

    Perform the hydraulic lift calibration.
