Case IH 1021 – EDC (Electronic Draft Control) / Hitch Control Module: Draft sensitivity control potentiometer - voltage too low (short or open circuit)
Issue description
The central controller is receiving a signal voltage from the draft sensitivity control potentiometer that is below the minimum acceptable threshold. This is typically caused by a short to ground, an open circuit in the wiring harness, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

Check the cause
Access the tractor's H-Menu (Calibration/Diagnostic menu) and navigate to H9 (Voltmeter), Channel 32 to view live readings for the draft sensitivity control potentiometer.
Perform a sweep test by turning the draft sensitivity control knob fully clockwise, and then fully counter-clockwise.
Verify the values displayed on the screen smoothly transition between 84 and 14.
If values are out of range or constant, inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the potentiometer and the Central Controller (XCM) for open circuits, shorts to ground, or pushed-out pins.
If the harness has continuity and no shorts, determine if the fault lies in the potentiometer or the XCM.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground before performing electrical repairs.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short or open circuit in the harness, repair the damaged wire or replace the faulty connector.
Replace Potentiometer
If the wiring is intact but the H9 Channel 32 values were out of range, remove the EDC control panel/armrest trim to access the draft sensitivity control knob. Unplug and replace the faulty potentiometer.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the error code from the system memory.
System Test
Test the draft control system for normal operation to ensure the code does not return.
