Case IH 1022 – EDC (Electronic Draft Control) / XCM (Central Controller): Draft sensitivity control potentiometer – voltage too high

The control module is receiving a voltage reading from the draft sensitivity control knob/potentiometer that exceeds the normal operating threshold, typically indicating a short circuit to a 5V or 12V power source, or a failed internal potentiometer track.

   Perform H9 Menu Sweep Test: Enter the H9 diagnostic menu and navigate to Channel 31 or 32 to view live potentiometer values

   Perform Range Check: Turn the draft sensitivity control knob fully clockwise, then fully counter-clockwise. Values should smoothly transition between 84 and 14

   Perform Wiggle Test: If values are within range, leave the screen on H9 Channel 31/32 and physically wiggle the wiring harness and connectors leading to the control panel to check for erratic jumps

   Perform Electrical Testing: Use a multimeter to check for a short to a 12V or 5V reference wire, and verify the sensor ground circuit is not open

   Inspect Wiring

   Based on the wiggle test, repair or replace any damaged wiring harness sections or corroded connector pins leading to the EDC control panel.

   Replace Potentiometer

   If the wiring is intact but the potentiometer fails the H9 sweep test (values are stuck high or out of the 84-14 range), the draft sensitivity control potentiometer itself has failed and must be replaced.

   Clear Codes

   Once the repair is made, clear the error code from the XCM.

   Recalibrate

   You must perform the hydraulic lift calibration procedure.

   Test

   Test the draft control system under normal operation to ensure the fault does not return.
