1023

Case IH 1023 – Hitch (CCH or TCU): Two draft pin sensors failed when configured for two draft pins. (CCH Only)

Issue description

The tractor's electronic draft control system is programmed to monitor two load-sensing draft pins on the 3-point hitch, but the controller has lost the signal from both sensors simultaneously.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Case IH Magnum Series (215, 235, 240, 245, 250, 275, 280, 290, 305, 310, 315, 335, 340)
  • Case IH MX Series (MX180, MX200, MX210, MX215, MX220, MX230, MX240, MX245, MX255, MX270, MX275)
  • Case IH Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the chassis wiring harness leading to the lower 3-point hitch draft pins for severed wires, abrasions, or pinch points

  2. Disconnect the draft pin sensor connectors and inspect for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins

  3. Verify the tractor's software configuration to ensure it is not incorrectly expecting two pins when only one is utilized

Repair steps

  1. Relieve hitch tension

Park the tractor on a level surface and completely lower the 3-point hitch to the ground to relieve all mechanical tension and load on the lower link draft pins.

  2. Disconnect power

Turn off the engine and disconnect the battery ground.

  3. Disconnect sensors

Disconnect the electrical connectors from both left and right draft pin sensors.

  4. Repair wiring

If the wiring harness is damaged, repair the broken wires or replace the lower hitch harness section.

  5. Remove retaining hardware

If the wiring is intact and the sensors have failed internally, remove the retaining bolts/hardware holding the draft pins in the lower lift arms.

  6. Remove faulty sensors

Slide the faulty draft pin sensors out of the hitch linkage.

  7. Install new sensors

Install the new draft pin sensors (or a Draft Pin Elimination Kit) and secure them with the retaining hardware.

  8. Reconnect electrical connectors

    Reconnect the electrical connectors.

  9. Calibrate system

Power on the tractor, clear the fault codes, and perform a Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration if required by the hitch control module.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • OEM Draft Sensor Pin (Magnum / MX Series)

    87351611

Manufactured by Bosch Rexroth for Case IH. Replaces older part numbers 283771A1 and 283771A2.

  • OEM Draft Sensor Pin (Puma Series)

    87661279
  • Draft Load Sensing Pin Elimination Kit (Aftermarket)

    830485

Manufactured by Hy-Capacity. Replaces OEM numbers 1964916C3 and 305135A1. Plugs directly into the harness to eliminate the sensors and prevent the error code from triggering.
