Case IH 1025 – Engine Controller (EDC / ECU), Universal Control Module (UCM), or Instrument Cluster (IC): Foot Throttle Sensor Is Above Range - Shorted To Power

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the foot throttle position sensor that exceeds the maximum expected operating range. This condition is typically caused by the sensor's signal wire shorting directly to a power source (such as a 5V reference or 12V battery voltage), an open ground circuit causing the voltage to float high, or an internal failure within the sensor itself.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness between the foot throttle sensor and the engine controller/UCM for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires.

   Disconnect the foot throttle sensor and check the signal wire on the harness side for voltage; a reading of +5V or +12V indicates a short to power.

   Verify that the sensor's ground circuit is intact, as an open ground will prevent the voltage from dropping.

   If the harness tests good (no shorts to power and a solid ground), test the internal potentiometer of the foot throttle sensor for failure.

   Disconnect Battery

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the foot throttle sensor assembly at the base of the accelerator pedal.

   Isolate the Fault

   Unplug the electrical connector (often a 6-cavity Metri-Pack connector).

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If your diagnostic checks revealed a short in the harness, trace the wire back to the ECU, locate the damaged section, splice/solder in new wire, and seal with heat shrink.

   Replace Sensor (If Applicable)

   If the harness is good, unbolt the faulty foot throttle sensor/pedal assembly and install the replacement unit.

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the wiring harness, reconnect the battery, and turn the key to the ON position. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 1025 fault code and verify that the throttle responds smoothly without throwing the code again.
