Case IH 1026 – Hitch Controller: Up/Down remote fender switch failure

The control system has received an invalid signal from the external 3-point hitch control switch located on the rear fender. The underlying condition is typically an open circuit, a short to ground/power, or a mechanically stuck switch (e.g., the switch is stuck in the "ON" position or both the Up and Down contacts are being bridged simultaneously).

   Visually inspect the rear fender switch for heavy dirt, mud, or physical damage that might cause the momentary switch to stick in the Up or Down position.

   Disconnect the switch and inspect the electrical connector. Ensure the pins are in the correct position, not damaged or pushed back, and that the fit is tight and free of corrosion.

   Use a multimeter to check the wiring harness between the fender switch and the Hitch ECU for continuity. Verify there is no open circuit or short to ground/power in the harness.

   Test the switch itself for proper continuity when pressed and ensure the circuit opens when the button is released.

   If the fault code is no longer present after cleaning and reseating the connector, clear the code and return the machine to proper operation.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the 3-point hitch to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the faulty Up/Down remote switch on the rear fender mudguard.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Reach behind the fender panel and disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Remove the retaining clips or locking nut holding the switch to the fender housing and push the old switch out of the mounting hole.

   Install the New Part

   Insert the new OEM replacement switch into the fender cutout and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the switch, ensuring the weather seal is intact and the connector clicks securely into place.

   Test Operation

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and test the fender switch to confirm the hitch raises and lowers correctly. Clear any stored fault codes using an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's diagnostic display.
