Case IH 1029 – ARM (Armrest Controller): Aux 5th remote valve control switch has failed

The controller has detected an electrical fault in the switch circuit, which typically means the switch is sending an out-of-range signal, an open circuit/no signal, or an illogical signal (such as registering both 'extend' and 'retract' simultaneously). As a result, the controller disables the 5th remote valve to prevent unintended hydraulic operation.

   Inspect the 5th remote valve control switch (on the armrest console or multi-function joystick) for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing it from returning to the neutral position.

   Verify the tractor's battery voltage. Low system voltage can cause the Armrest Controller to log false switch faults (often accompanied by code 8011 for Low Battery Voltage).

   Inspect the wiring harness between the 5th remote switch and the Armrest Controller. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or corroded connector pins.

   Access the tractor's diagnostic display. Turn the key ON, enter programming mode, navigate to the AUX SET MENU, and use the AUX VIEW function to monitor the switch inputs in real-time to see if the ARM controller is recognizing the switch being toggled.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.

   Access the Switch

   Remove the retaining screws and carefully lift the armrest console cover to access the underside of the remote valve control switches.

   Test the Switch

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the 5th remote valve switch. Using a digital multimeter, test the switch for continuity. Check the resistance when the switch is in the neutral, extend, and retract positions.

   Inspect the Harness

   If the switch tests good, use the multimeter to check for continuity and verify there are no shorts to ground in the wiring harness running from the switch connector to the Armrest Controller. Repair any damaged wiring.

   Replace the Component

   If the switch fails the continuity test, remove it from the armrest bezel and install the replacement switch. Reconnect the wiring harness.

   Reassemble

   Secure the armrest console cover back into place.

   Recalibrate

   Reconnect the battery and start the tractor. Enter the diagnostic menu, navigate to the AUX CAL (Auxiliary Calibration) menu, and run the calibration procedure so the Armrest Controller can learn the flow thresholds and neutral positions of the newly installed switch.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the inactive fault codes from the ARM controller and test the 5th remote valve for proper operation.
