Case IH 1029 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) / Hitch Controller: Drop rate command potentiometer failure

The system logs this code when the data bus signals that the drop rate command potentiometer has failed or is sending an invalid signal.

   Check the armrest controller for fault code ARM 159, which indicates the potentiometer has failed inside the armrest controller

   Verify that the issue is not a software execution error within the armrest controller

   Check the wiring harness for any physical damage, breaks, or shorts between the potentiometer and the controller

   Inspect Connections

   Access the armrest controller and inspect the physical connections to the drop rate command potentiometer. Ensure there is no corrosion or loose wiring.

   Test the Potentiometer

   If you have access to the bare component, test the resistance across the potentiometer pins. (Note: Many of these potentiometers test at 2.7k ohms from center to the outside pins).

   Replace the Component/Board

   If fault code ARM 159 is confirmed or the potentiometer tests out of specification, the potentiometer must be replaced. If you cannot perform component-level soldering, you will need to replace the entire Armrest Controller PCB.

   Clear Codes and Test

   After replacing the part, use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's display to clear the fault codes. Operate the hitch and monitor the display to ensure the drop rate command responds normally and the code does not return.
