1029 - UCM

Case IH 1029 - UCM – XCM / UCM: Hydraulic control valve disconnected

Issue description

The control module has detected an open circuit, a loss of communication, or a physical disconnection in the wiring harness that supplies the signal to the hydraulic control valve.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Puma Series (165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
  • Case IH MXM Series (MXM 120 through MXM 190)
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Magnum Series

Check the cause

  1. Check for related open-circuit codes (specifically 1031, 1030, or 1063/1064) to isolate the issue to a shared harness.

  2. Visually inspect the chassis wiring harness routing between the XCM/UCM and the hydraulic control valve for obvious physical damage, chafing, or severed wires.

  3. Disconnect the harness at the hydraulic control valve and the XCM and check for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture intrusion.

  4. Use a multimeter to test the continuity of the signal and ground circuits from the XCM pins to the valve connector to confirm if the open circuit is in the wiring or internal to the valve solenoid.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during harness repair.

  2. Secure Connections

If the diagnostic check revealed a loose connector at the hydraulic valve, clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely reconnect the plug.

  3. Harness Repair

If continuity testing revealed a broken wire in the chassis harness, repair the damaged section using OEM-approved weather-sealed splice connectors, or replace the affected harness section entirely.

  4. Valve/Solenoid Replacement

If the wiring harness tests perfectly but the open circuit remains, the internal solenoid of the hydraulic control valve has failed. Remove the hydraulic pressure from the system, unbolt the faulty control valve, and install a replacement unit.

  5. Clear Codes and Calibrate

Reconnect the battery and power on the machine. Access the controller's diagnostic menu. Use the H8 menu (or HC menu) to clear stored error codes and reset the EEPROM values back to default.
