Case IH 1031 – CCH: Left draft pin voltage is outside the normal operating range.(CCH Only)

Issue description

The voltage signal returning from the left draft pin sensor is outside of the expected electrical parameters. This typically means the sensor has failed internally, the wiring harness is damaged (open or shorted), or the sensor has been unplugged.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the left draft pin sensor (located at the lower left link arm connection) to ensure it is securely plugged in.

  2. Test the wire harness leading to the left draft pin for continuity. Look for damaged wires, pinched lines, or corroded connector pins.

  3. Check the sensor's resistance across its pins (typically Pins A, B, and C) to verify if the internal potentiometer has failed open or shorted.

Repair steps

  1. Lower the 3-point hitch

    Lower the 3-point hitch to the ground to remove all mechanical tension and load from the lower link arms.

  2. Disconnect battery

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  3. Disconnect wiring harness

    Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the defective left draft pin.

  4. Remove retaining hardware

    Remove the retaining hardware (usually a locking bolt or snap ring) securing the draft pin to the hitch bracket.

  5. Remove old draft pin

    Drive the old draft pin out of the linkage.

  6. Install new draft pin

    Install the new OEM draft sensing pin and secure it with the retaining hardware.

  7. Reconnect wiring harness

    Reconnect the wiring harness.

  8. Perform hitch calibration

    Power on the tractor. You may need to perform a hitch calibration procedure via the tractor's display/controller so the CCH can learn the new 'no load' voltage offset for the new pin.

  9. Alternative: Disconnect harnesses for elimination kit

    If draft control is NOT used, disconnect the wiring harnesses from both the left and right draft pins.

  10. Plug in dummy modules

    Plug the electronic load sensing elimination modules (dummy plugs) directly into the tractor's wiring harness.

  11. Secure modules

    Secure the modules and harness safely out of the way using tie wraps. This completely disables the draft sensing function and feeds a normal 'dummy' voltage back to the CCH, preventing the 1031 fault code from returning.
