Case IH 1031 - UCM – UCM: Chassis harness disconnected

Indicates that the main chassis wiring harness has lost communication or physical connection with the control module.

   Check the physical connection of the main chassis harness where it plugs into the UCM/XCM

   Inspect the wiring harness connectors for corrosion, moisture, pushed-out pins, or damaged wires

   Verify that the UCM is receiving proper 12V power and ground, and check related chassis fuses (such as Fuse 14)

   Determine if the UCM was recently replaced, as a missing automatic detection procedure can trigger communication faults

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the UCM

   Locate the Universal Control Module (UCM) on your specific machine (often located in the cab console or under the armrest depending on the model).

   Reseat Connectors

   Disconnect the main chassis harness from the UCM. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and check for bent pins. Firmly reconnect the harness, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Repair Wiring

   If the harness is physically damaged (e.g., chewed by rodents or rubbed through on the chassis), splice and repair the broken wires using weather-sealed connectors, or replace the harness section.

   UCM Calibration (If Replaced)

   If the UCM was replaced, turn the key on and allow the automatic detection procedure to run so the module can recognize the EDC and chassis controls.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use the EST (Electronic Service Tool) or the tractor's diagnostic menu to clear the latched 1031 fault code.

   Test

   Operate the tractor's hitch and transmission to ensure the code does not return.
