Case IH 1033 – Hitch Controller / Electronic Draft Control (EDC) module or Armrest Controller: Draft control potentiometer - voltage too low
Issue description
The controller is receiving a voltage signal from the draft control potentiometer that falls below the minimum acceptable threshold, typically indicating a short to ground, a broken wire (open circuit), or a complete internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the draft control potentiometer (both the command knob in the cab and the feedback sensors on the rear hitch linkage) for chafing, pinched wires, or disconnected plugs.
Voltage Test: Disconnect the potentiometer and turn the key to the ON position. Use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage from the EDC module.
Ground Check: Verify that the ground circuit for the sensor has good continuity and no excessive resistance.
Continuity/Short Test: Test the signal wire between the sensor connector and the Hitch/EDC controller for a short to ground or an open circuit.
Sensor Sweep Test: If the wiring is intact, measure the resistance across the potentiometer while manually sweeping it. If the resistance drops out to zero or reads open, the potentiometer has failed internally.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Sensor
Identify the faulty draft control potentiometer. Depending on the exact sub-code and model, this will either be the operator command knob in the armrest console or the draft sensing pin/potentiometer on the rear 3-point hitch lower link arms.
Remove the Faulty Part
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Remove the retaining bolts or mounting hardware securing the potentiometer to the linkage or console.
Install the New Part
Mount the replacement potentiometer in the exact same orientation. Secure the mounting hardware.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Calibration
Turn the tractor on. You must perform the Hitch/EDC Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration procedure via the tractor's instrument cluster (H-Menu) or diagnostic tool so the EDC module can learn the minimum and maximum voltage values of the new potentiometer.
