Case IH 104 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Even clutch solenoid or its wiring failed open or shorted to ground.

The controller has detected a break in the electrical circuit (open) or a wire touching the chassis/ground (shorted to ground) on the circuit controlling the even gear clutch solenoid.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading from the Transmission Controller to the Even Clutch Solenoid for rubbed-through insulation (short to ground) or broken wires (open circuit).

   Disconnect the Even Clutch Solenoid connector (Connector No. 30 on MX Magnum models) and check for corroded, pushed-back, or bent pins.

   Measure the resistance of the Even Clutch Solenoid coil. If the coil reads completely open (infinite resistance) or shorted (zero resistance), the solenoid itself has failed.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the transmission powershift valve block. Identify the Even Clutch Solenoid (often grouped with the Odd, Creep, and Master clutch solenoids).

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or a short to ground in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wire and secure it away from pinch points.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining hardware for the Even Clutch Solenoid and pull the valve out.

   Install New Solenoid

   Lubricate the new O-rings with clean transmission fluid. Install the new solenoid valve into the block and tighten to specification. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Transmission Calibration

   After replacing transmission clutch components or repairing the circuit, the transmission controller must be calibrated. Ensure the transmission oil is warmed to more than 60°C (140°F) before attempting calibration. Ensure no persons are in front of or in back of the tractor during the calibration process.
