Case IH 1059 – ARM / ALL modules: Timeout of CAN Message DM1 / Hitch SLIP switch is failed
Issue description
In SSL/CTLs, indicates a timeout of CAN Message DM1 (communication loss). In tractors, indicates the armrest controller is detecting an illogical state, open circuit, or short in the wheel slip limit switch circuit.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- skid steer
- Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
- Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
- MX Magnum
- TG Series
- Steiger
- STX 325
- STX 435
- Puma series
Check the cause
For SSL/CTL (CAN Timeout cause): Inspect the main CAN bus wiring harness and connections between the Engine ECU, UCM, and Instrument Cluster.
For SSL/CTL (CAN Timeout cause): Look for damaged wires, loose connectors, or corrosion that could interrupt CAN communication.
For Tractors (Hitch SLIP Switch cause): Open the armrest controller housing and locate connector SW202 (WHEEL SLIP LIMIT switch).
For Tractors (Hitch SLIP Switch cause): Inspect the SLIP LIMIT switch and its wiring for visible damage, loose connectors, or bent pins.
For Tractors (Hitch SLIP Switch cause): Perform a continuity test on the switch. In SLIP SELECT position, expect continuity between pins 4 and 5, and no continuity between pins 4 and 6. In SLIP SET position, expect continuity between pins 4 and 6.
Repair steps
Address wiring issues
For either cause, if diagnostic checks reveal broken wires, bent pins, or corroded connectors along the CAN bus or at the SW202 connector, repair or replace the affected wiring harness sections.
Replace the Hitch SLIP switch
For tractors (Hitch SLIP switch cause): If the switch fails the continuity test, remove the faulty switch from the armrest console and install a new one.
Reassemble and clear codes
Reconnect all connectors (such as SW202), close any opened housings, turn the machine on, and clear the fault codes. Test hitch slip functionality or verify CAN communication to ensure the code does not return.
