Case IH 106 – Armrest Controller: Aux 5th remote valve control switch (Extend) is failed in the Armrest Controller
Issue description
The system has detected an open circuit, short circuit, or out-of-range signal coming specifically from the "Extend" position of the switch controlling the 5th auxiliary hydraulic remote valve.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Magnum
- Magnum Series
- Steiger Series
- Quadtrac Series
- TG Series
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
- Optum Series
Check the cause
Inspect the 5th remote valve switch on the armrest console for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing it from returning to the neutral position.
Verify tractor battery voltage (low system voltage can cause the Armrest Controller to log erroneous switch faults).
Remove the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness connecting the 5th remote switch to the Armrest Controller for pinched wires, chafing, or loose/corroded pins.
Using a multimeter, test the switch for continuity. Check the resistance when the switch is pushed to the 'Extend' position to see if it reads open or shorted internally.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent short circuits while working on the Armrest Controller.
Access the Armrest Console
Remove the retaining screws securing the right-hand armrest control panel/console cover. Carefully lift the cover to expose the internal wiring and switch blocks.
Disconnect the Switch
Locate the 5th auxiliary remote valve switch assembly. Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the bottom of the switch.
Remove the Switch
Unclip or unbolt the faulty switch from the console housing (depending on the exact model year, these may be held in by plastic retaining tabs or small Torx screws).
Install the New Part
Snap or screw the new remote valve switch into the console housing.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness into the new switch. Ensure the connector clicks into place securely.
Reassemble
Reinstall the armrest console cover and tighten the retaining screws.
Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, clear the stored fault codes from the Armrest Controller, and test the 5th remote valve in both the Extend and Retract positions to verify the repair.
