1060

Case IH 1060 – Armrest Controller: Differential Lock Switch is failed in the Armrest Controller

Issue description

This code indicates that the control module has detected an electrical failure—such as an open circuit, short to ground, short to 12V, or an implausible signal—originating from the differential lock switch circuit.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • Case IH MX Magnum Series (MX210, MX215, MX230, MX245, MX255, MX275, MX285, MX305)
  • Case IH Steiger Series (280, 330, 530)
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH TG Series (TG210, TG230, TG255, TG285)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect connector ends for damaged, bent, pushed-back, or corroded pins at both the differential lock switch and the armrest controller.

  2. Check for related codes (such as ARM 1069 or MFD switch faults). Multiple switch failures often point to a shared ground issue, a wiring harness chafe, or a failure within the Armrest Controller itself.

  3. Remove the differential lock switch and test for continuity across its terminals while toggling it.

  4. Check the wiring harness between the differential lock switch and the armrest controller for continuity, and ensure there are no shorts to ground or shorts to voltage.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.

  2. Access the Armrest Console

Remove the retaining screws holding the right-hand armrest control console cover in place.

  3. Remove the Switch

Locate the differential lock switch on the control panel. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the back of the switch. Depress the retaining tabs on the switch body and push it up/out through the top of the console panel.

  4. Install the New Part

Snap the new OEM differential lock switch into the console panel until the tabs lock. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Reassembly

Reinstall the armrest console cover and secure the hardware.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the inactive fault codes. Start the tractor and verify that the differential lock engages and disengages properly (Note: The differential lock will automatically disengage when either brake pedal is pushed).
