Case IH 1063 – EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Controller: EDC Hydraulic valve lower solenoid - open circuit

The controller has detected a break in the electrical circuit (open circuit) supplying the solenoid responsible for lowering the rear hitch (Electronic Draft Control / EDC).

   Visual Inspection: Locate the hitch valve block (between the main hydraulic pump and compensator) and inspect the wiring harness connector at the lower solenoid for damage or disconnection caused by debris.

   Resistance Test: Disconnect the harness from the lower solenoid and measure resistance across the pins. A healthy coil reads 3.8 to 4.2 Ohms. Infinite resistance indicates an internal coil failure.

   Harness Continuity Test: If the solenoid tests good, check the wiring harness for an open circuit between the EDC relay/controller and the solenoid connector.

   Hydraulic Bypass Test: Supply 12 volts and a ground directly to the solenoid pins to bypass the controller. If the hitch lowers, the mechanical valve is sound, confirming the issue is strictly electrical.

   Park and secure tractor

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the hitch completely (if possible, or mechanically support it), turn off the engine, and remove the key.

   Locate valve block

   Locate the EDC hitch valve block at the rear of the tractor and identify the lower solenoid (the bottom coil).

   Disconnect connector

   Disconnect the 2-pin electrical connector from the lower solenoid.

   Replace connector if damaged

   If the diagnostic tests proved the wiring harness connector is damaged (a very common failure point), cut the old connector off and splice in a new 2-pin pigtail connector (Part # 87695582).

   Remove retaining nut

   If the diagnostic tests proved the solenoid coil is open/dead, remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem.

   Remove faulty coil

   Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge.

   Install new coil

   Slide the new replacement solenoid coil onto the cartridge and tighten the retaining nut.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Test repair

   Turn the key on, clear the fault codes from the diagnostic menu, and test the hitch raise/lower functions to verify the repair.
