Case IH 1064 – EDC microprocessor, Hitch Controller, or XCM: EDC Hydraulic valve raise solenoid - open circuit
Issue description
The control module has detected a break in electrical continuity (infinite resistance) in the circuit responsible for activating the hydraulic valve's raise solenoid, preventing the tractor from raising the rear hitch or operating the affected hydraulic remote.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Locate the EDC hydraulic valve block (typically at the rear of the tractor near the hitch or remote valves). Inspect the wiring harness leading to the raise solenoid for chafed wires, rodent damage, or breaks.
Connector Check: Disconnect the plug at the raise solenoid. Check for pushed-out pins, severe corrosion, or moisture inside the connector.
Coil Resistance Test: Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the raise solenoid coil. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance, the internal coil is broken and the solenoid must be replaced.
Harness Continuity Test: If the coil tests good, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the EDC/Hitch controller to locate the open wire.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the Solenoid
Identify the affected remote valve or EDC valve block at the rear of the tractor. Locate the 'Raise' solenoid.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty raise solenoid.
Remove the Coil
Remove the retaining nut or screw at the end of the solenoid cartridge. Slide the faulty electromagnetic coil assembly off the valve stem. (Note: You usually do not need to remove the hydraulic cartridge itself, which prevents fluid loss).
Install New Coil
Slide the new raise solenoid coil onto the valve stem. If the kit includes new backup rings or O-rings, replace them as necessary.
Reassemble
Tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's torque specification and plug the electrical connector back in.
Test and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery and start the tractor. Clear the stored fault codes via the display monitor. Test the hitch/remote raise function. Depending on the model, you may need to perform an automatic Hitch/EDC calibration procedure via the tractor's display.
