Case IH 1065 – Armrest Controller (ARU): Armrest controller specified tractor without draft control, but detected presence of draft pin(s)

Issue description

The tractor's software is configured for a position-only hitch, but the controller is receiving a voltage signal on the draft pin sensor circuit, tricking the system into thinking draft load cell sensors are present.

Check the cause

  1. Verify Physical Equipment: Check the lower links of the rear hitch to see if the tractor is actually equipped with draft load sensing pins or if it is a standard position-only hitch.

  2. Check Controller Configuration: Use an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check the Armrest Controller's software settings. Ensure the configuration matches the physical equipment.

  3. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: If the tractor is indeed a position-only hitch, locate the wiring harness where the draft pins would normally connect. Look for missing dummy plugs (pin eliminators), damaged wires, or short circuits to power/ground.

  4. Check for Moisture Intrusion: Check for moisture or water getting into the draft pin connectors or dummy plugs, which bridges the connection and sends a false voltage signal to the ARU.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

    Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

  2. Address Configuration Issues (If Equipped with Draft)

    If the tractor does have draft control but the controller lost its configuration, connect the EST to the diagnostic port. Navigate to the Armrest/Hitch controller settings, change the configuration from 'Without Draft Control' to 'With Draft Control,' and perform a standard hitch calibration.

  3. Inspect the Harness (If Position-Only)

    If the tractor is a 'position-only' hitch, locate the draft pin sensor connectors on the rear hitch wiring harness.

  4. Disconnect and Clean

    Disconnect the dummy plugs (pin eliminators) from the harness. Inspect the connectors for water, dirt, or corrosion. Clean the contacts thoroughly with electrical contact cleaner and dry them with compressed air.

  5. Check for Shorts

    Inspect the wiring harness leading back to the Armrest Controller for any chafing, bare wires, or shorts. Repair any damaged wiring.

  6. Replace Dummy Plugs

    If the dummy plugs are faulty, missing, or heavily corroded, install new draft pin eliminators. Apply dielectric grease to the connections to prevent future moisture intrusion.

  7. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, clear the fault codes using the EST or by cycling the key, and verify that code 1065 does not return.
