Case IH 1066 - 02 - CSM – Hitch / EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Module or ATC (Armrest/Tractor Controller): Engine RPM is too low for lower hitch calibration / Raise solenoid short circuit

Indicates one of two conditions: 1) Engine RPM is too low for lower hitch calibration, meaning the system requires a minimum engine speed to provide adequate hydraulic flow during EDC calibration. 2) Raise solenoid short circuit, meaning the controller has detected a short circuit in the electrical circuit operating the hydraulic raise solenoid for the hitch.

   If experiencing the Calibration Error (Engine RPM too low): Verify the tractor is parked on a level surface with the parking brake engaged.

   If experiencing the Calibration Error (Engine RPM too low): Check the dashboard tachometer to ensure the engine is reaching the minimum RPM specified in the service manual for hitch calibration (usually above 1,200 - 1,500 RPM depending on the model).

   If experiencing the Calibration Error (Engine RPM too low): Ensure the tractor is not moving, as movement will trigger a secondary code (1068) and abort the calibration.

   If experiencing the Raise Solenoid Short Circuit: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the EDC hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor.

   If experiencing the Raise Solenoid Short Circuit: Look for rubbed, melted, or pinched wires that could be shorting to the chassis ground.

   If experiencing the Raise Solenoid Short Circuit: Disconnect the raise solenoid connector and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins to check for an internal short.

   Warm up hydraulic oil

   For Hitch Calibration Issue: Start the engine and allow the hydraulic oil to reach normal operating temperature.

   Increase engine RPM

   For Hitch Calibration Issue: Increase the hand throttle so the engine RPM meets or exceeds the minimum threshold required for calibration.

   Re-initiate calibration

   For Hitch Calibration Issue: Re-initiate the lower hitch calibration sequence via the cab display or armrest controls.

   Complete calibration cycle

   For Hitch Calibration Issue: Allow the hitch to fully cycle without interrupting the process or moving the tractor.

   Disconnect battery

   For Raise Solenoid Short Circuit: Disconnect the battery ground cable.

   Repair wiring harness

   For Raise Solenoid Short Circuit: If the wiring harness is damaged, repair the affected section using OEM-approved weather-sealed splice connectors, or replace the harness section.

   Remove retaining nut

   For Raise Solenoid Short Circuit: If the multimeter test proves the solenoid coil is internally shorted, remove the retaining nut on the EDC hydraulic valve block.

   Remove defective coil

   For Raise Solenoid Short Circuit: Slide the defective raise solenoid coil off the valve stem.

   Install new coil

   For Raise Solenoid Short Circuit: Install the new solenoid coil, tighten the retaining nut, and reconnect the wiring harness.

    Test hitch function

    For Raise Solenoid Short Circuit: Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes, and test the hitch raise function.
