Case IH 1066 – Hitch Controller / EDC module / Transmission / Armrest Controller (TMF/ATC): EDC Hydraulic valve raise solenoid - short circuit

Issue description

The Electronic Draft Control (EDC) system has detected that the electrical circuit controlling the raise solenoid on the rear hitch hydraulic valve is shorted. This means the circuit has abnormally low resistance, either shorting directly to ground or shorting to a 12V power source, which prevents the controller from properly actuating the hitch raise function.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the Hitch/EDC controller to the proportional solenoid valve stack for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched harnesses.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the raise solenoid and measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins to check for an internal short.

  3. With the solenoid disconnected and key ON, test the harness-side connector for continuity to ground on the power supply wire to isolate a harness short.

  4. Test the EDC relay and the hitch enable relay to ensure they are not stuck closed or internally shorted.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a level surface. Lower the rear hitch completely to relieve hydraulic pressure. Turn off the engine and remove the key.

  2. Locate the Valve

    Locate the EDC hydraulic lift valve stack at the rear of the tractor.

  3. Disconnect

    Unplug the electrical connector from the raise solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

    Remove the retaining nut or hardware securing the solenoid coil to the valve cartridge stem. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve.

  5. Install the New Part

    Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining hardware. If the cartridge was removed, replace the O-rings and back-up rings before reinstallation.

  6. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid. If the diagnostic phase revealed a harness short, repair the damaged wires using weather-sealed splices.

  7. Calibration

    You must perform an EDC Valve Calibration after installing a new EDC valve, solenoid, or controller. Turn on the tractor and use the electronic management system (via the H-Menu or AFS Pro display) to run the automated calibration procedure.
