1066 - UCM

Case IH 1066 - UCM – UCM: EDC Hydraulic valve raise solenoid - short circuit

Issue description

The system has detected that the electrical circuit controlling the raise solenoid on the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) hydraulic valve is shorted, either internally within the solenoid coil or within the wiring harness. This condition prevents the controller from properly regulating the hydraulic lift functions.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Puma Series (140, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
  • Case IH Maxxum Series (MXM 120, 130, 140, 155, 175, 190)
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Farmall Series (40, 45, 50 with Cab/CVT)

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness running from the UCM to the EDC raise solenoid for any signs of rubbing, bare wires, or a short to ground/12V.

  2. Inspect the electrical connectors at both the UCM and the raise solenoid for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins.

  3. Disconnect the raise solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid terminals to check for an internal short.

  4. Disconnect the tractor's battery for a short period to see if a module reset clears a transient error.

Repair steps

  1. Isolate Power

Turn off the key switch and disconnect the battery to protect the UCM from voltage spikes during repair.

  2. Locate the Valve

Locate the EDC hydraulic control valve block at the rear of the tractor and identify the 'Raise' solenoid.

  3. Remove the Faulty Component

If the multimeter test confirmed an internal short in the solenoid, remove the retaining nut/hardware and slide the faulty raise solenoid coil off the valve stem.

  4. Install New Solenoid

Install the replacement solenoid coil (and replace the backup rings/O-rings if the cartridge was removed).

  5. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the solenoid tested fine but the harness was shorted, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness and secure it away from pinch points.

  6. Clear Fault Codes

Reconnect the battery. Use the tractor's integrated 'H-Menu' on the instrument cluster to clear the codes. Navigating to the 'HC' menu will erase all stored error codes without erasing calibration information.

  7. Recalibrate (If Necessary)

If the EDC valve block was replaced or H8 was used, perform the EDC hydraulic calibration procedure to teach the UCM the new valve thresholds.
