Case IH 1067-04 - ITBV – ITBV: Trailer brake controller service brake sensor voltage low
Issue description
The control module is receiving an abnormally low voltage signal from the trailer brake pressure sensor. This typically indicates a mechanical failure in the sensor, sensor wear, incorrect resistance at the contacts, or a short to ground in the wiring harness.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum Series (180, 200, 220, 225, 235, 240, 250, 260, 280, 290, 310, 315, 340, 370, 380)
- Puma Series (130, 145, 170, 185, 260 CVX)
- Maxxum Series (125 Multicontroller / CVT)
- Optum Series
Check the cause
Check the wiring and contacts in the connectors between the ITBV/EBS control unit and the trailer brake pressure sensor for continuity and insulation, specifically looking for a short to ground.
Verify the software version of the Trailer Brake Control (iTBV) module to ensure it is up to date (e.g., version 1.3.0.0 for Magnum Tier 4B).
Verify that the trailer's air suspension pressure is within the allowable range and check the ITBV valve and lines for physical damage or leaks.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Block the wheels before performing any brake system tests.
Charge the System
Fully charge the air brake system (if equipped with pneumatic trailer brakes) and verify proper brake adjustment.
Isolate the Fault
Disconnect the wiring harness from the trailer brake pressure sensor. If the wiring tests OK for continuity and shows no short to ground, the sensor itself has failed internally.
Replace the Sensor
Remove the faulty pressure sensor from the ITBV assembly (often an M12 x 1.5 threaded sensor) and install the replacement.
Leak Test
Reconnect the harness. Make several trailer brake applications to check for prompt application and release. Check the ITBV module, modulator valve, and all air hose fittings for leakage using a soap solution with the service brakes fully applied.
Clear Codes
Clear the 1067-04 fault code from the ITBV module using the electronic service tool.
