1070

Case IH 1070 – Electronic Draft Control (EDC): Hydraulic ram configuration not set.

Issue description

A software configuration error that occurs when the tractor's Electronic Draft Control (EDC) system does not know the physical diameter of the external hydraulic lift rams installed on the rear linkage. The system's memory reverts to a generic 'def' (default) state, triggering the code to prevent improper hydraulic pressure or draft control operation.

Applies to these machines

  • Maxxum
  • Farmall
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Puma 140
  • Puma 165
  • Puma 180
  • Puma 195
  • Puma 210
  • Puma 225 CVX
  • MX210
  • MX230
  • MX255
  • MX285
  • Farmall 115U
  • Farmall 40
  • Farmall 45
  • Farmall 50

Check the cause

  1. Verify the physical ram size: Physically measure or check the specifications of the external hydraulic lift rams on the rear 3-point hitch to determine if they are 90mm, 100mm, or 110mm in diameter.

  2. Check the EDC Channel 1 status: Access the tractor's 'HH Menu' (diagnostic menu) on the instrument cluster, navigate to the Electronic Draft Control sub-system, and check 'Ch 1'. A 'def' reading confirms the configuration is missing.

Repair steps

  1. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.

Note: Some models may require connecting special diagnostic tool 380000843 to the diagnostic connector to activate the 'HH MENU' on the dot matrix display.

  2. Select the Electronic Draft Control sub-system.

Depress the 'menu' key on the instrument cluster. The upper section of the display will show “ch _ _”.

  3. Select Channel 1 (Ch 1).

Use the navigation “up” and “down” keys to select Channel 1, which is dedicated to the 'Diameter of the external hydraulic lift rams'.

  4. Scroll through the available options.

Use the navigation “up” or “down” key. The options available (in millimeters) are 90, 100, and 110.

  5. Select the matching size.

Select the size that matches your tractor's physical lift rams.

  6. Save the desired option.

Depress and hold the navigation 'up' or 'down' key until the instrument cluster bleeps. The beep indicates that the selection has been successfully saved to the EEPROM.

  7. Exit the menu.

Depress the “menu” key to exit or continue navigating through the “HH” menus. The 1070 fault code will now be resolved.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • External Hydraulic Lift Ram

Only required if the rear lift cylinders were just replaced or upgraded. OEM part numbers vary depending on the specific tractor model and the 90mm/100mm/110mm size requirement.
