1073

Case IH 1073 – Hitch / EDC (Electronic Draft Control) module: Not implemented

Issue description

This fault code is a software placeholder in the controller's diagnostic logic and is not assigned to any specific physical component. It typically indicates a software glitch, a CAN data bus communication anomaly, or an incorrect configuration file.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Case IH Magnum Series 4 (235, 260, 290, 315, 340)

Check the cause

  1. Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check if the code is active or stored as a historical glitch

  2. Verify the current software version on the Hitch/EDC controller

  3. Check the tractor's configuration settings in the display to ensure no unsupported hitch features are toggled on

  4. Check the CAN data bus for communication stability, as dropped packets can sometimes trigger unassigned placeholder codes

Repair steps

  1. Connect EST

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Clear codes

Read and clear the inactive fault codes.

  3. Cycle power

Cycle the tractor's key power. If code 1073 does not return, it was a transient CAN bus glitch and no further action is required.

  4. Check for updates

If the code remains active, use the EST to check for available OEM software updates for the Hitch/EDC module.

  5. Reflash controller

Reflash the controller with the latest software version.

  6. Calibrate EDC

Perform the EDC (Electronic Draft Control) calibration procedure to ensure the module relearns the physical limits of the hitch.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Hitch Control Module / EDC Controller

Required if the controller has suffered an internal memory failure, cannot be reflashed, and continues to throw phantom codes.
