Case IH 1074 – Hitch ECU / TMF (Tractor Management Frame) / Rear Lift Control module: Hitch pot signal not within expected range for maximum hitch position.
Issue description
During the electronic draft control (EDC) hitch calibration procedure, the signal voltage/resistance from the hitch rockshaft position potentiometer falls outside the specified or expected parameters when the hitch is at its maximum raised position.

Check the cause
Clear and Recalibrate: Always clear stored fault codes and attempt to recalibrate the hitch before replacing any electronic components.
Inspect Mechanical Linkage: Check the mechanical linkage connecting the rockshaft to the potentiometer. A misadjusted or physically damaged linkage can cause the sensor to read out of bounds at the top of its travel.
Electrical Resistance Test: Test the hitch rockshaft position potentiometer with a multimeter. The specification for the sensor is 1000 ohms ± 10% resistance across pins A to C.
Wiring Harness Check: Inspect the 3-pin factory-sealed weather-proof connector and harness for open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.

Clear Codes
Connect your diagnostic tool and clear the 1074 fault code.
Mechanical Adjustment
Ensure the hitch is free of heavy implements. Inspect the rockshaft bellcrank and the potentiometer link lever (Part # 1342165C1) for binding or slipping. Adjust the mechanical linkage if it has slipped out of its factory position.
Attempt Calibration
Run the EDC (Electronic Draft Control) hitch calibration procedure. Ensure the engine is running at the correct RPM, as low engine speed can abort the calibration (Code 1066/1069).
Replace Sensor
If the calibration fails again with code 1074, or if the sensor failed the 1000-ohm resistance test, the potentiometer has internal wiper contact failure and must be replaced.
Install New Potentiometer
Disconnect the 3-pin connector, unbolt the sensor from the rockshaft housing, and install the new rotary resistance potentiometer.
Final Calibration
You must perform the hitch calibration procedure again after installing the new sensor so the Hitch ECU can learn the new minimum and maximum voltage limits.
