Case IH 1075 - UCM – UCM: Left external fender switch short to Vbat

The control module has detected that the electrical circuit for the left-hand external fender switch (typically used to operate the rear hitch/Electronic Draft Control or the rear PTO from outside the cab) is shorted to battery voltage (12V). This is often caused by an internal short within the switch due to water intrusion, a stuck button, or a wiring harness chafing against a live power wire.

   Visually inspect the left rear fender switch for physical damage, collapsed rubber boots, sticking buttons, or signs of water/mud ingress.

   Perform a switch isolation test: Disconnect the electrical connector at the left fender switch and turn the key ON. If the fault code changes from 1075 to 1076 (Unexpected value) or an open circuit code, the switch itself is internally shorted.

   If the code remains 1075 with the switch unplugged, trace the wiring harness from the left fender back to the UCM. Look for pinched wires, melted insulation, or chafing against a 12V power source.

   Inspect the UCM connectors and the fender switch pigtail for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins that could be bridging a 12V pin to the switch signal pin.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the faulty left external fender switch on the rear fender housing.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Reach behind the fender panel (or remove the protective cover) and unplug the electrical connector from the switch.

   Harness Repair

   If your diagnostics revealed a shorted wire in the harness, cut out the damaged section, splice in a new wire, and seal it with marine-grade heat shrink.

   Remove the Switch

   Depress the plastic retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body (or remove the retaining nut, depending on the model) and push the switch out through the top of the fender.

   Install the New Part

   Snap the new OEM fender switch into the fender cutout until it seats firmly.

   Reconnect

   Plug the wiring harness connector back into the switch. Ensure the weather seal clicks into place.

   Clear Codes & Test

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition ON and clear the fault codes using the tractor's instrument cluster diagnostic menu or an electronic service tool. Test the rear hitch or PTO operation using the new fender switch to verify the repair.
