Case IH 1076 – ATC / EDC: PWM lower threshold is too low.

During the hitch system calibration (Electronic Draft Control / EDC calibration), the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) threshold required to start lowering the hitch was recorded below the acceptable limit (13%). This indicates that the hitch lower valve is opening at a lower PWM duty cycle than expected. This can be caused by a sticking solenoid plunger, a faulty hitch lower valve, or a wiring/electrical issue causing the valve to actuate prematurely.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the hitch lower solenoid and the ECU/ATC module for damage, loose pins, or poor fit.

   Perform continuity testing on the harness using a multi-meter to check for an open circuit or a short to ground/power on the lower hitch valve coils.

   Perform a hydraulic/solenoid bypass test by supplying 12 volts to the power pin and grounding the ground pin (do not ground directly to the control module). If the hitch does not lower, the issue is mechanical; if it does, the issue is likely wiring or the control module.

   Inspect the solenoid valve plunger to see if it is off-center or sticking, which can cause the hitch to drift or actuate at the wrong threshold.

   Secure the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the hitch completely (if possible) or mechanically block it to prevent it from dropping during service. Turn off the engine and disconnect the battery.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic continuity test revealed damaged wiring or corroded pins, repair or replace the affected harness section and connectors.

   Replace the Solenoid/Valve

   If the bypass test failed or the plunger is sticking, remove the retaining nut/hardware holding the hitch lower solenoid to the hitch control valve block.

   Install New Part

   Slide the new solenoid coil over the valve stem and torque the retaining nut to OEM specifications. If the valve cartridge itself is scored or damaged, replace the entire hitch control valve assembly.

   Recalibrate the System

   Reconnect the battery and start the tractor. You must perform the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) hitch calibration procedure via the in-cab display or armrest controls so the ATC module can relearn the correct PWM raise and lower thresholds.

   Verify Operation

   Clear the inactive 1076 fault code and test the hitch through its full range of motion to ensure the code does not return.
