Case IH 1077 – Transmission Control Module (TCM): Right external fender switch open circuit/short to GND.

The control module has detected a fault in the electrical circuit for the right-hand external fender switch (which is typically used by the operator to control the remote PTO or the electronic draft control/3-point hitch from outside the cab). The system is seeing either a broken wire/disconnected plug (open circuit) or a wire that is inappropriately touching the tractor's chassis/ground (short to GND), preventing the switch from sending the correct voltage signal.

   Inspect the right external fender switch for physical damage, sticking buttons, or water ingress

   Inspect the right fender wiring harness for chafing, pinched wires, or disconnected plugs between the fender and the main cab harness

   Disconnect the battery negative cable. Disconnect the switch and use a Digital Multimeter (DMM) to test the switch for continuity when pressed and unpressed

   Test for a short to ground by connecting one probe of the DMM to the signal wire on the harness side and the other to the tractor chassis

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the right external fender switch housing. Remove the retaining screws or bezel clips securing the switch to the fender.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Pull the switch out slightly and disconnect the wiring harness plug from the back of the switch.

   Repair or Replace

   If the wiring is damaged: Repair the chafed/broken section of the RH fender harness using weather-sealed crimp connectors, or replace the entire RH fender harness if the damage is extensive. If the switch failed the multimeter test: Plug the new OEM replacement switch into the harness.

   Reassembly

   Secure the wiring with retaining clips (ensure it is not pinched against the fender metal) and mount the switch back into the fender housing.

   Test

   Reconnect the negative battery cable. Turn the key to the ON position, clear the stored fault codes, and test the right fender switch to ensure the PTO or hitch responds correctly without throwing Code 1077.
