1078

Case IH 1078 – ATC (Advanced Tractor Control) module or Hitch Control Module: Hitch position is not at minimum.

Issue description

The hitch control system is detecting that the hitch has not reached its minimum (lowest) position when commanded. This is typically caused by the hitch position lever not being fully lowered, a physical obstruction blocking the hitch, an out-of-adjustment position potentiometer, or a failed position potentiometer.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
  • Case IH Magnum 7200 Series

Check the cause

  1. Check if the hitch position lever is actually set to the minimum position.

  2. Inspect the rear hitch assembly for any physical obstructions (dirt, debris, or implement binding) preventing it from lowering completely.

  3. Using a multimeter, check the voltage of the hitch position potentiometer. It must read between 0.9 and 1.1 volts when the hitch is at its mechanical minimum.

  4. Inspect the wiring harness, connectors, and pins between the position potentiometer and the ECU for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

Repair steps

  1. Clear Obstructions

Move the hitch position lever to the minimum position and remove any physical obstructions from the hitch.

  2. Adjust the Sensor

If the hitch is physically at the bottom but the code persists, adjust the position potentiometer until it reads the specified 0.9 to 1.1 volts at the minimum position.

  3. Replace the Sensor

If the position potentiometer cannot be adjusted to the correct voltage range, or if it has an internal open/short circuit, the potentiometer has failed and must be replaced.

  4. Verify Repair

After adjustment or replacement, clear the fault codes and cycle the hitch to ensure it operates correctly and the code does not return.

Parts you might need
