Case IH 1079-03 - ITBV – ITBV: 5-volt sensor DC power supply voltage is abnormally high or shorted to a higher voltage source

The voltage on the sensor supply circuit is reading above the normal operating threshold (typically greater than 4.95V or 5.25V DC). In the context of the service brake pressure sensor, this usually means the sensor's 5V supply wiring is shorted to a 12-volt source, or the controller's internal 5V regulator has failed.

   Monitor Live Data: Enter the tractor's diagnostic screen (e.g., Universal Display "DIAG" screen), navigate to the "BRAKES" menu, and select the service brake pressure switch/sensor to monitor the live voltage reading.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness connecting the ITBV module to the service brake pressure sensor for visible damage, chafing, or melted insulation that could cause a short to a 12-volt power source.

   Voltage Test: Disconnect the service brake pressure sensor and use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the 5V supply pin on the harness connector. If it reads 12 volts, there is a short in the harness or a failure inside the controller.

   Isolate the Short

   With the sensor disconnected, disconnect the wiring harness from the ITBV controller.

   Test the Harness

   Check for continuity between the sensor's 5V supply wire and any 12V power wires in the harness. If continuity is found, repair or replace the damaged wiring harness.

   Test the Controller

   If the harness tests good (no shorts), the ITBV controller likely has an internal regulator failure causing it to output 12V on the 5V circuit. In this case, replace the ITBV controller.

   Test the Sensor

   If the supply voltage at the connector is a normal 5V but the code persists when plugged in, the service brake pressure sensor itself is internally shorted and must be replaced.

   Clear Codes

   After replacing the faulty component (harness, ITBV valve, or sensor), cycle the key, test the service brakes, and clear the fault codes from the ITBV module.
