Case IH 1079.04 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) or Electronic Power Control (EPC) / Armrest Controller: Sensor Supply Voltage 1 - Short circuit to 0V (Ground)
Issue description
The control module has detected that the 5-volt reference circuit has dropped below the acceptable operating threshold (typically measuring less than 4.44V to 4.8V), indicating that the power supply wire is shorting directly to a ground source (0V) either inside a failed sensor or within the wiring harness.

Check the cause
Perform a sensor isolation test by disconnecting the sensors on the affected 5V supply circuit one at a time (e.g., engine oil pressure, boost pressure, coolant pressure, clutch pedal potentiometer, accelerator/hand throttle potentiometers).
Monitor voltage or active codes after unplugging each sensor. If the voltage returns to 5V or the code changes from 'short to ground' to an 'open circuit' code, the sensor you just unplugged is internally shorted.
Inspect the wiring harness for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation rubbing against the engine block or chassis if all sensors are disconnected and the short to ground persists.
Verify the ECU by testing with a known-good controller if the wiring harness tests good (infinite resistance to ground with all sensors and the ECU unplugged).
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Locate the Short
Based on the diagnostic isolation test, locate the internally shorted sensor or the damaged section of the wiring harness.
Inspect Connectors
Check the connector of the failed sensor for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins, which can bridge the 5V supply to the ground pin. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.
Replace or Repair
If a sensor failed: Replace the faulty sensor with a new OEM unit. If the harness failed: Cut out the damaged section of the wire. Solder in a new section of wire and seal it with marine-grade, adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing to prevent moisture entry.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect all sensors and the battery. Turn the ignition to the ON position. Use an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the logged diagnostic codes, or cycle the battery power if a manual reset is supported by the model.
Verify Repair
Start the engine and verify that the 1079.04 code does not return to an active state.
