Case IH 1080 – ATC (Armrest Controller): Hitch position range to position command range ratio is not within limits.
Issue description
The tractor's control module is detecting a mismatch between the operator's commanded hitch position (via the cab's position command potentiometer/lever) and the actual physical position of the 3-point hitch rockshaft (measured by the hitch position potentiometer). This indicates that the hitch is not moving to the requested position, the sensors are providing skewed voltage feedback, or the system has lost its calibration parameters.

Check the cause
Check the physical mounting of the hitch rockshaft position potentiometer and ensure the linkage connecting the sensor to the hitch is not bent, disconnected, or loose.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the hitch position sensor, the cab command potentiometer, and the ATC/EDC controller for corrosion, backed-out pins, or wire chafing.
Perform a sensor sweep test using a multimeter to verify the 5V reference and ground at the sensors. Check the signal wire for a smooth, linear voltage change as the hitch or command lever is moved through its full range of motion (dead spots indicate a failed potentiometer).
Repair steps
Calibrate the System
Attempt to perform the Electronic Hitch Control (EHR) / Electronic Draft Control (EDC) lever calibration procedure. Often, this code triggers simply because the module has lost its learned upper and lower limits.
Software Update
If the EHR lever was calibrated but the error code returns, connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST). Download/flash the correct and most up-to-date level of software to the controller, then perform the calibration procedure again.
Replace Sensors
If the calibration fails because the controller cannot see the full range of motion, replace the faulty hitch position potentiometer or command potentiometer (identified during the diagnostic sweep test).
Controller Replacement
If the sensors and wiring are perfectly intact, the software is updated, and the fault occurs again after calibration, the service manual dictates to remove and replace the controller.
