Case IH 1085 – EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Controller or Hitch Controller: Electronic draft control requires calibration
Issue description
Triggered when the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) system loses its calibration settings. This typically happens if the non-volatile memory in the controller has been reset, if the controller was recently reconfigured, or if a related hitch component (like a draft pin or potentiometer) was replaced.

Check the cause
Ensure the tractor is completely stationary (movement will trigger Code 1068 and abort calibration)
Ensure the engine is running at the correct idle speed (low RPM triggers Code 1069)
Verify the hitch is at its absolute minimum (bottom) position before starting (Code 1078)
Check for active codes related to the draft pin sensors (e.g., 1022, 1023, 1081, 1082) or the hitch position potentiometers (e.g., 1074, 1079, 1080), as sensor faults will prevent calibration
Repair steps
Method 1 (Armrest Display): Start the tractor and ensure it is parked on level ground with the implement lowered or removed.
Press the PROG key on the display to enter the sub-menus for the TCU/controller.
Navigate to the EDC MENU (Electronic Draft Control) screen.
Press the PROG key to enter the hitch menus.
Select HITCH CAL (Use this menu to calibrate the hitch system).
Follow the on-screen prompts to raise and lower the hitch, which allows the controller to learn the maximum and minimum potentiometer voltages.
Method 2 (Manual / Rocker Switch): Turn all EDC potentiometers/knobs (draft control, drop rate, height limit) fully clockwise, and set the draft wheel to the maximum value.
Start the engine.
Using the lift/lower rocker switch on the side console, command the lift arms right to the top. Keep the switch pressed for a couple of seconds until the red diagnostic light flashes quickly.
Command the arms to the absolute bottom and keep the switch pressed until the light flashes again.
Activate the hitch on the multi-controller to verify it responds smoothly and the calibration is saved.
If manual calibration fails, a dealer Electronic Service Tool (EST) or compatible aftermarket tool like Jaltest is required to force the EDC hydraulic lift calibration.
