Case IH 1089 – Hitch Controller: 12VH1 voltage supply to the hitch raise and lower coils is below 8 volts

The power circuit (12VH1) responsible for supplying voltage to the electro-hydraulic solenoid coils that control the raising and lowering of the 3-point hitch has experienced a significant voltage drop.

   Check the fuse on the 12VH1 circuit for the 3-point hitch

   Verify battery voltage and alternator charging output to ensure a healthy 12V+ supply

   Inspect power and ground connections at the hitch controller and hitch valve block for corrosion, loose pins, or damage

   Test the resistance of the hitch raise and lower solenoid coils to ensure they are not shorted

   Power Down and Locate Fuses

   Turn off the tractor. Locate the cab fuse panel and identify the fuse for the 3-point hitch / 12VH1 circuit (refer to the operator's manual for the exact fuse location).

   Inspect and Replace Fuse

   If the fuse is blown, do not immediately replace it. Proceed to step 3 to find the short. If it is not blown, proceed to step 4.

   Test the Solenoid Coils

   Locate the hitch control valve block at the rear of the tractor. Disconnect the electrical connectors to the hitch raise and lower solenoid coils. Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the coils. If a coil is shorted to ground, replace the solenoid coil, then replace the fuse.

   Trace the Voltage

   If the fuse is good, turn the key to the ON position. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the supply pin of the hitch coil connectors.

   Inspect Wiring and Grounds

   If the voltage at the coils is below 8 volts, trace the 12VH1 wiring harness back toward the controller and fuse panel. Look for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or corroded ground terminals. Clean and tighten all ground connections associated with the hitch controller.

   Repair and Clear

   Repair any damaged wiring or replace the faulty solenoid. Reconnect the harness, clear the fault code via the cab monitor, and perform a functional test of the hitch to verify the repair.
