Case IH 109 – Armrest Controller: Aux 2nd remote valve LEVER potentiometer is failed in the Armrest Controller

Issue description

The potentiometer inside the #2 remote valve (SCV) control lever on the armrest has failed, lost its ability to sense the neutral position, or is sending an out-of-range/implausible voltage signal to the controller. This often results in the remote valve failing to operate, slowly creeping, or activating on its own.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • MX Magnum Series
  • Magnum Series
  • Steiger / Quadtrac Series
  • Puma Series
  • TG Series
  • Maxxum and Optum Series

Check the cause

  1. Check the main cab ground strap and the ground to the armrest controller for looseness or corrosion, which can cause voltage drops and trigger erratic codes.

  2. Attempt to recalibrate the remote valves. Check if the display shows the #2 lever in an active state when physically resting in neutral.

  3. Remove the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness and connector going to the #2 remote lever for pinched wires or loose pins.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor and disconnect battery power.

  6. Install the new control lever assembly and reconnect the wiring harness.

Install the new control lever assembly and reconnect the wiring harness.

  7. Reassemble the armrest console housing.

    Reassemble the armrest console housing.

  8. Calibrate the New Lever.

Turn the key to the ON position while holding the 'Program' button to enter the A-post calibration menu (or use the Pro700 display). Navigate to the ARM (Armrest) section and select the auxiliary lever calibration. The system will prompt you to pull the levers fully back (retract), fully forward (extend), and then let them rest in neutral, pressing the program button at each step. Turn the key off and wait 30 seconds before restarting the tractor to save the calibration.
