Case IH 1090 – Armrest Controller (ARU / ARU2) or Hitch Controller / ATC: Not implemented / Aux 5th remote valve control switch (Extend) failure

Issue description

In newer firmware, this code is a software placeholder ('Not implemented') indicating an undefined error or phantom code. In older models, it indicates the auxiliary 5th remote valve control switch (extend) has failed in the Armrest Controller. It typically points to an issue with the 5th remote valve switch circuit or an incorrect configuration looking for a non-existent 5th remote.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Case IH Magnum Series 4 (235, 260, 290, 315, 340)
  • Case IH MX Series
  • Case IH TG Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify Tractor Configuration: Access the Pro 700 / Intelliview display and check the hydraulic configurations. Ensure the tractor is not programmed for a 5th auxiliary remote valve if one is not physically installed.

  2. Test the Armrest Switches: If the tractor does have a 5th remote, test the physical extend/retract switch on the armrest for sticking, physical damage, or debris.

  3. Check Battery Voltage: Verify the battery is resting above 12.4V and the alternator is charging correctly, as low system voltage frequently causes phantom 'Not implemented' codes.

  4. Check for Software Updates: Check if there is a newer software calibration available for the Armrest Controller.

Repair steps

  1. Clear the Code

Clear the inactive fault codes from the display and cycle the key. Operate the hydraulics to see if the code returns.

  2. Update Firmware

Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Reflash/update the Armrest Controller and Hitch Controller to the latest software version to eliminate phantom placeholder codes.

  3. Inspect the Switch Wiring

If the code returns and points to the 5th remote, disassemble the armrest console and inspect the wiring harness connecting the remote valve levers/switches to the Armrest Controller. Look for pinched wires or short circuits.

  4. Replace the Switch/Module

If the 5th remote extend switch is internally shorted or failed, replace the switch or the affected armrest pod assembly.

  5. Recalibrate

After replacing any armrest components or updating software, perform a full calibration of the auxiliary remote valves and the hitch using the display monitor.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Auxiliary Remote Valve Control Switch / Armrest Switch Module

Specific part numbers vary heavily by exact Magnum/Steiger serial number and armrest generation (e.g., ARU vs. ARU2). If replacing the switch does not resolve the issue, the entire Armrest Controller (ARU) may need to be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.
