Case IH 11 – Electronic Hitch Control (EHR / EDC) / Central Controller (XCM): Height limit control voltage high (damaged potentiometer or short to +12 Volts)
Issue description
The central controller is receiving a voltage signal from the height limit control potentiometer that exceeds the normal operating range. The underlying condition is typically a damaged potentiometer, a short circuit to a +12V power source in the wiring harness, or a failure within the controller itself.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the height limit control potentiometer and the Central Controller (XCM) for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins
Use a multimeter to check for a short circuit to +12 Volts on the potentiometer signal wire
Test the resistance and voltage sweep of the height limit control potentiometer to check for internal failure, such as an open circuit or dead spots
Verify the Central Controller (XCM) functionality if the harness and potentiometer test fine
Repair steps
Isolate the Circuit
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Control Panel
Remove the trim or armrest casing to access the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) panel where the height limit control knob is located.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic tests revealed a short to +12V in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wire or replace the affected harness segment.
Replace the Potentiometer/Module
If the harness is intact, remove the faulty height limit control potentiometer. Note: On many modern Case IH models, individual potentiometers are soldered into a printed circuit board, requiring the replacement of the entire Draft Control Module or EHR switch panel.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the components and the battery. Turn the key on and use the tractor's diagnostic menu (or an EST diagnostic tool) to clear Error Code 11 / 1011.
Recalibrate
Perform the electronic hitch calibration procedure as outlined in the operator's manual to ensure the new potentiometer limits are learned by the controller.
