110

Case IH 110 – Armrest Controller: Aux 3rd remote valve LEVER potentiometer is failed in the Armrest Controller.

Issue description

The electronic control unit is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or completely missing electrical voltage signal from the rotary potentiometer attached to the 3rd auxiliary hydraulic remote lever in the cab. The system can no longer accurately determine the physical position of the lever, disabling the 3rd remote valve for safety.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • MX Magnum series
  • Magnum series
  • Steiger 4WD / STX series
  • Puma series

Check the cause

  1. Check the 3rd remote lever for physical damage, binding, or debris that might prevent it from returning to the neutral position.

  2. Remove the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness leading to the 3rd remote potentiometer. Look for chafed wires, backed-out pins, or corrosion in the connector.

  3. Verify that the potentiometer is receiving its 5V reference signal and has a solid ground from the Armrest Controller.

  4. Perform the Swap Test: Swap the electrical connector of the 3rd remote lever potentiometer with an adjacent one (e.g., the 2nd remote lever or 4th remote lever). If the fault code changes to match the new position, the potentiometer itself is internally failed. If Code 110 persists despite the swap, the potentiometer is fine, and the issue lies within the armrest wiring harness or a failed circuit on the Armrest Controller board itself.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the CAN-bus network modules.

  2. Disassemble the Armrest

Remove the retaining screws holding the right-hand armrest console cover/bezel in place and carefully lift it to expose the internal lever assemblies.

  3. Locate the Sensor

Locate the 3rd auxiliary remote valve lever assembly. The potentiometer is the small electronic sensor mounted directly to the pivot shaft of the lever.

  4. Remove the Faulty Part

Disconnect the electrical connector from the potentiometer. Remove the retaining nut or small mounting screws securing the potentiometer to the lever assembly.

  5. Install the New Part

Install the replacement potentiometer. Note: Ensure the internal tang or slot of the new potentiometer aligns perfectly with the flat spot or pin on the lever's pivot shaft before tightening the mounting hardware.

  6. Reassemble

Reconnect the electrical connector, reinstall the armrest console cover, and reconnect the tractor's battery.

  7. Calibration

You must perform the Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Valve Lever Calibration via the tractor's display monitor. This teaches the Armrest Controller the specific minimum, maximum, and neutral voltage values of the newly installed potentiometer.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Armrest Remote Valve Lever Potentiometer / Electronic Throttle/Hitch Position Potentiometer

    87605247

A highly common CNH heavy-duty electronic position potentiometer used for armrest levers, hitch, and throttle networks on Magnum, Puma, Steiger, and New Holland T-series.

  • Potentiometer

    87755846

Potentiometer (5V, 30mA, 150mW) commonly used for EHR flow control and lever encoders on Magnum and Puma armrests.

  • Potentiometer

    256305A2

Potentiometer (1000 Ohm) used for remote flow control on earlier MX Magnum series.

  • Potentiometer
