11011

Case IH 11011 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Clutch Pedal Position potentiometer voltage is too Low

Issue description

The transmission controller has detected that the signal voltage from the clutch (inching) pedal potentiometer has fallen below the acceptable minimum range (typically below 0.3V).

Applies to these machines

  • STX Steiger
  • Magnum Series
  • Steiger / STX Series
  • Puma Series
  • Maxxum & CX Series

Check the cause

  1. Check the clutch (inching) pedal operation and ensure the clutch pedal stop bolt is not loose or incorrectly adjusted, which can cause the pedal to travel too far.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness from the transmission controller to the clutch pedal position potentiometer for an open circuit, damaged pins, or a short to ground.

  3. Using the tractor's diagnostic display (TRANS VIEW screen), monitor the pedal position potentiometer voltage. Slowly depress and release the pedal to see if the voltage sweeps smoothly or drops out entirely.

  4. Attempt to recalibrate the clutch pedal, as the fault is often caused by the potentiometer losing its calibration parameters.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Sensor

Locate the clutch (inching) pedal position potentiometer, which is mounted on the steering column side of the clutch pedal assembly.

  2. Test the Circuit

Disconnect the sensor and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving the correct 5-volt reference from the transmission controller. If voltage is missing, repair the wiring harness.

  3. Replace the Potentiometer

If the wiring is intact and the sensor fails the sweep test or will not accept calibration, remove the retaining hardware and remove the faulty potentiometer. Install the new OEM potentiometer and reconnect the harness.

  4. Calibrate the New Sensor

You must perform the Transmission Controller Calibration procedure for the inching pedal. Access the tractor's display monitor, navigate to Program Menu -> Trans Menu -> Trans Setup -> Calibrate Clutch Pedal, and follow the on-screen prompts to set and save the 'pedal up' (released) and 'pedal down' (fully depressed) positions.
