Case IH 11012 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Clutch Pedal Position potentiometer voltage is too High

The controller is receiving a voltage signal from the clutch pedal position sensor that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This condition is typically caused by the sensor's signal wire being shorted to a 12-volt power source, shorted to the 5-volt reference line, an open ground circuit, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the clutch pedal potentiometer (located beside the clutch pedal in the cab) for visible damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Use a multimeter to verify the sensor has a solid ground. An open ground will cause the signal voltage to read high.

   Disconnect the sensor and turn the key ON. Check the signal wire on the harness side. If it reads high voltage (5V or 12V) while disconnected, there is a short to power in the wiring harness.

   If the harness voltages (5V reference, ground, and signal) are correct when disconnected, the potentiometer has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Preparation

   Turn off the tractor, apply the parking brake, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the clutch pedal position potentiometer, which is mounted directly to the clutch pedal linkage assembly inside the cab.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Remove the retaining hardware (typically M5 screws or a snap ring/clip) securing the sensor to the bracket. Carefully detach the rotary linkage/pin connecting the sensor to the pedal and remove the faulty potentiometer.

   Installation

   Install the new potentiometer, ensuring the rotary linkage is properly aligned with the pedal mechanism so it sweeps the correct range. Secure the mounting hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Calibration

   Reconnect the battery and turn the key ON. You must perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure using the tractor's display monitor or an EST (Electronic Service Tool). The system needs to relearn the Bottom of Clutch (BOC = 0%) and Top of Clutch (TOC = 100%) positions. Failure to calibrate will result in code 2024 and the tractor will not move.
