Case IH 11030 – Armrest Controller (ARM): Invalid Configuration - Hitch Travel potentiometer is failed in the Armrest Controller

The Tractor Data Bus has signaled that the hitch travel range potentiometer has failed, or the hitch controller received an out-of-range/failed signal from the armrest controller. This can occur if the potentiometer physically fails, if there is an open/short in the wiring, or if the hitch travel limit feature was turned on during the armrest hitch configuration procedure but the controller can no longer detect the potentiometer.

   Check for associated codes (e.g., ARM 1059 for the slip switch or ARM 1049 for the Up/Down switch) which might indicate a shared 5V reference or ground failure in the armrest controller

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the armrest controller (specifically connector J205) for loose, backed-out, or corroded pins

   Test the Hitch Travel potentiometer resistance using a multimeter (typically 10,000 ohms ± 10% across pins A to C)

   Test voltage to verify that the armrest controller is supplying a 5V reference and a good ground to the potentiometer

   Check configuration to ensure the armrest hitch menu calibration was performed correctly, as a disconnected potentiometer during calibration can trigger this fault

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Armrest Console

   Remove the retaining screws holding the right-hand armrest console cover/housing to expose the internal control boards and secondary panel.

   Locate the Component

   Locate the Hitch Travel potentiometer (often grouped with the drop rate and upper limit potentiometers on the draft control panel).

   Disconnect the Harness

   Carefully unplug the 3-pin electrical connector from the failed potentiometer.

   Remove the Potentiometer

   Remove the control knob from the top of the console. Then, remove the retaining nut or mounting screws securing the potentiometer to the console bracket.

   Install the New Part

   Insert the new potentiometer into the bracket, secure it with the retaining nut, and reinstall the control knob.

   Reconnect Wiring

   Plug the 3-pin electrical connector into the new potentiometer.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the armrest console cover and secure all screws.

   Restore Power

   Reconnect the negative battery cable.

    Perform Calibration

    Turn the key on and navigate to the Hitch Calibration Menu on the instrumentation display. Perform the hitch calibration procedure so the Armrest Controller learns the minimum and maximum voltage values of the new travel potentiometer.
