11030

Case IH 11030 – Armrest Controller: Aux 3rd remote valve LEVER potentiometer is failed in the Armrest Controller

Issue description

The potentiometer (the sensor that reads the physical position of the 3rd hydraulic remote lever) is sending an erratic, out-of-range, or missing voltage signal to the controller. When this happens, the controller cannot accurately determine if the operator is commanding the 3rd remote valve to raise, lower, or stay in neutral.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • Magnum Series
  • Magnum 235-370
  • Steiger / Quadtrac Series
  • STX Steiger 385
  • STX Steiger 430
  • STX Steiger 435
  • STX Steiger 450
  • STX Steiger 500
  • STX Steiger 530
  • Puma Series
  • Puma 125
  • Puma 130-230
  • Maxxum Series
  • MXM 120-190
  • TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Reboot the system by cycling the tractor's key power to clear potential temporary communication glitches

  2. Physically inspect the 3rd remote lever to ensure it returns to the neutral (center) position smoothly and is not binding or obstructed by debris

  3. Observe the remote valve status lights on the A-post display; if the green cylinder light remains on when the lever is in neutral, the potentiometer is reading a false command

  4. Perform a live voltage test using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or A-post diagnostic menu to monitor the potentiometer for dead spots, voltage spikes, or failure to return to baseline neutral voltage

  5. Attempt to recalibrate the Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) levers; failure to calibrate confirms a faulty potentiometer

Repair steps

  1. Prepare tractor for repair

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access internal EHR lever modules

Remove the retaining screws and carefully lift the top cover of the armrest console to access the internal EHR lever modules.

  3. Locate 3rd remote valve lever

Locate the 3rd remote valve lever assembly inside the armrest.

  4. Disconnect electrical harness

Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the failing 3rd lever module.

  5. Remove faulty lever

Remove the mounting screws securing the lever assembly to the armrest chassis and extract the faulty lever.

  6. Install new lever

Install the new remote valve lever assembly and secure it with the mounting screws.

  7. Reconnect electrical harness

Reconnect the electrical harness to the new lever.

  8. Reassemble armrest console

    Reassemble the armrest console cover.

  9. Reconnect battery

    Reconnect the battery.

  10. Perform calibration

Perform the Electro-Hydraulic Remote Valve Lever Calibration procedure so the Armrest Controller can learn the new potentiometer's minimum, maximum, and neutral voltage values. Hold the PROG key while turning the ignition key to the ON position. Navigate to the 'ARM' section to find the calibration menu. Pull the remote levers fully back, fully forward, and then let them rest in neutral. Turn off the key and wait 30 seconds before starting the tractor to test.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Case IH Control Lever / EHR Lever Assembly
