Case IH 11050 – Armrest Controller (ARM): Hitch Upper Limit potentiometer has failed in the Armrest Controller

The tractor's data bus has signaled that the hitch controller received an invalid or missing signal from the upper limit potentiometer, which is wired directly to the armrest controller. Possible failure modes include an internal open or short in the potentiometer, a software execution error, or a wiring harness/connector failure.

   Inspect the physical condition of the Hitch Upper Limit dial/knob on the armrest to ensure it rotates smoothly and is not physically broken.

   Disassemble the armrest console to access the potentiometer and inspect the wiring pigtail and connector for backed-out pins, corrosion, or chafed wires.

   Perform a potentiometer sweep test using a multimeter to check for a smooth, linear change in resistance while turning the dial. A reading that drops to zero, reads infinite, or is erratic indicates an internal fault.

   Check the tractor's armrest controller firmware and ensure it is up to date to rule out a software execution error.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts while working inside the armrest.

   Disassemble the Armrest

   Remove the retaining screws holding the top cover of the armrest control console. Carefully lift the cover, taking care not to strain the wiring harnesses connected to the switches and dials.

   Remove the Faulty Potentiometer

   Locate the Hitch Upper Limit potentiometer. Disconnect its electrical connector from the armrest controller board. Remove the retaining nut or clips holding the potentiometer to the console housing and pull the unit out.

   Install the New Part

   Insert the replacement potentiometer into the housing, secure it with the retaining hardware, and plug the connector back into the armrest controller.

   Reassemble

   Carefully lower the armrest cover back into place, ensuring no wires are pinched, and reinstall the retaining screws.

   Reconnect Power & Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and clear the stored fault codes. Perform the Electronic Hitch Controller Calibration procedure to ensure the module learns the new potentiometer's exact voltage limits.
