Case IH 11069 – HITCH Controller: Hitch Rockshaft Position potentiometer is outside normal operating range.

Issue description

The signal difference between the fully lowered and fully raised position of the hitch rockshaft is not within the specified electrical parameters. The controller is detecting a voltage or resistance value from the potentiometer that falls outside the expected 0–5 VDC (or 0–4k ohm) usable sweep range.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the hitch linkage for any foreign objects, packed debris, or mechanical binding that would restrict the hitch from moving through its full physical range of motion.

  2. Check the rockshaft potentiometer linkage and lever. Ensure it is not disconnected, bent, or slipping on its shaft.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness for damage. Check the connector ends at the potentiometer and the Hitch Controller for damaged, bent, corroded, or dislocated pins.

  4. Perform an electrical sweep test (MX/TG/Steiger Series): Measure resistance across pins A and C (should be approx 4,000 ohms). Measure resistance across pins B and C while rotating clockwise (should increase smoothly from 0 to about 4,000 ohms). Check signal output (should sweep smoothly between 0 and 5 VDC).

  5. Perform an electrical sweep test (Magnum 7200 Series): Measure resistance across pins A to C (should be 1,000 ohms ± 10%).

Repair steps

  1. Clear Obstructions

    If mechanical interference was found during diagnosis, clear the debris or repair the bound hitch components so the rockshaft can travel fully.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If the harness or connector pins are damaged, repair the wiring or replace the pigtail connector.

  3. Fix Linkage

    If the potentiometer linkage is loose, re-secure it. If the linkage is broken, replace the linkage arm.

  4. Replace Potentiometer

    If the potentiometer fails the resistance or voltage sweep tests (e.g., open circuit, dead spots, or out-of-spec resistance), remove the faulty sensor and install a new Hitch Rockshaft Position potentiometer.

  5. Calibrate and Clear

    After replacing the sensor or fixing the linkage, clear the 11069 fault code from the Hitch Controller memory. Cycle the hitch fully up and down to ensure the new sensor values are registered and the code does not return.
