Case IH 11070 – Hitch Controller (HITCH) or Tractor Management Function (TMF): Hitch Position Command potentiometer failed in the Armrest controller.

The electronic control unit is receiving an invalid signal (voltage too high, voltage too low, or an open/short circuit) from the potentiometer attached to the hitch control lever in the cab, causing the system to default to a halt condition to prevent unintended hitch movement.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the hitch position lever for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected plugs.

   Perform a potentiometer sweep test using a multimeter on the signal wire. Slowly move the hitch command lever from the lowest to the highest position and verify the voltage/resistance sweeps smoothly without dropping to zero, spiking, or showing dead spots.

   Check for related fault codes, such as 11069 (Hitch Rockshaft Position potentiometer outside normal range), which can also cause the controller to halt the system.

   Safety First

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Armrest

   Remove the retaining screws holding the armrest console cover in place and carefully lift the panel to expose the internal control levers and circuit boards.

   Remove the Sensor

   Locate the Hitch Position Command potentiometer (attached to the pivot point of the hitch control lever). Disconnect its 3-pin electrical connector.

   Dismount

   Remove the retaining nut or mounting screws holding the potentiometer to the lever assembly. Carefully slide the old sensor off the D-shaft or slotted linkage.

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new potentiometer onto the linkage, ensuring the mechanical alignment matches the sensor's rotational axis. Secure it with the retaining hardware and plug in the electrical connector.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the armrest console cover and reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Perform a Hitch Calibration procedure via the tractor's instrumentation display (navigate to Hitch Setup Main Menu -> Hitch Calibration Menu). This teaches the Armrest Controller the new minimum and maximum voltage limits of the replacement potentiometer.
