Case IH 11072 – Auxiliary Valve Controller: 2nd Remote Flow Potentiometer Failed High
Issue description
Fault code 11072 indicates that the Auxiliary Valve Controller is receiving a signal voltage from the 2nd remote flow control dial (potentiometer) that is above the normal operating range (typically near or at the 5V reference limit). A 'failed high' condition is most commonly caused by an open ground circuit, a short to power (5V or 12V) in the wiring harness, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the armrest control panel wiring harness and connector going to the 2nd remote flow potentiometer for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins.
Use a multimeter to check the ground circuit at the potentiometer connector. An open ground is the most frequent cause of a 'failed high' voltage reading.
Perform a voltage sweep test by back-probing the signal wire. With the key on, slowly turn the flow control dial. The voltage should sweep smoothly between 0.5V and 4.5V. If it is stuck at a constant 5V regardless of knob position, the potentiometer is internally shorted/failed.
Swap the electrical connector of the 2nd remote flow potentiometer with an adjacent, known-good flow potentiometer (such as the 1st or 3rd remote). If the fault code changes to match the new position (e.g., 11062 for the 1st remote), the potentiometer is definitively the failed component. If the 11072 code remains, the issue is in the wiring harness or the controller.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.
Access armrest controls
Remove the retaining screws to lift the secondary control panel/cover on the armrest to access the underside of the remote valve controls.
Disconnect harness
Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the faulty 2nd remote flow potentiometer.
Remove knob
Pull the plastic flow control knob off the top of the potentiometer shaft.
Remove retaining nut
Remove the retaining nut (typically a 3/8-32 nut) securing the potentiometer to the armrest panel.
Remove potentiometer
Pull the old potentiometer out from the bottom of the panel.
Install new potentiometer
Insert the new potentiometer, secure it with the retaining nut, and press the flow control knob back onto the shaft.
Reconnect harness
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Reassemble panel
Reassemble the armrest control panel.
Clear codes and test
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use the tractor's diagnostic menu or an electronic service tool to clear the AUX67/AUX89 fault codes. Test the remote valve to ensure proper flow adjustment.
