11080

Case IH 11080 – Armrest Controller: Aux 3rd remote valve FLOW potentiometer is failed in the Armrest Controller

Issue description

The controller has detected an out-of-range signal, open circuit, or short circuit from the rotary potentiometer used to adjust the hydraulic flow rate for the 3rd auxiliary remote valve.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • Case IH MX Magnum Series
  • Case IH Magnum Series (e.g., 215, 235, 260, 290, 315, 340)
  • Case IH Steiger 4WD Tractors (e.g., 380, 430, 435, 450, 535)

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Remove the right-hand armrest console cover and inspect the wiring harness and connector going to the 3rd remote valve flow potentiometer for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Potentiometer Test: Disconnect the 1000 Ohm variable resistor and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across its sweep. Look for dead spots, infinite resistance (open circuit), or zero resistance (short) as you turn the dial.

  3. Circuit Check: Verify that the Armrest Controller is supplying the correct 5-volt reference and ground to the potentiometer.

  4. Check for Related Codes: If multiple armrest controls are failing simultaneously, check for a broader Armrest Controller failure, loss of communication (e.g., code 12011), or a shared 5V reference issue.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Disassemble the upper housing of the right-hand armrest console to access the internal control boards and potentiometers.

Disassemble the upper housing of the right-hand armrest console to access the internal control boards and potentiometers.

  3. Locate the flow control potentiometer for the 3rd auxiliary remote valve.

Locate the flow control potentiometer for the 3rd auxiliary remote valve.

  4. Pull off the control knob and remove the retaining nut (typically a 3/8-32 nut) securing the potentiometer to the console plate.

Pull off the control knob and remove the retaining nut (typically a 3/8-32 nut) securing the potentiometer to the console plate.

  5. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the faulty potentiometer.

Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the faulty potentiometer.

  6. Install the new potentiometer, secure it with the retaining nut, and reattach the knob.

Install the new potentiometer, secure it with the retaining nut, and reattach the knob.

  7. Reconnect the wiring harness and reassemble the armrest console.

Reconnect the wiring harness and reassemble the armrest console.

  8. Perform the Armrest Controller Calibration via the instrument cluster (ICU2) or the tractor's display monitor.

Navigate to the "AUX FLOW" calibration menu to calibrate the new potentiometer for high and low flow limits.
