Case IH 11081 – Armrest Controller (TMF): 1st remote FLOW potentiometer SENSE is failed low.
Issue description
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the 1st remote valve's flow control potentiometer (located in the armrest) that is below the acceptable minimum threshold. This typically indicates a short to ground, a broken wire, an unplugged connector, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- STX Steiger
- Case IH Steiger / Quadtrac Series: 280, 330, 380, 430, 450, 480, 500, 530, 535
- Case IH Magnum Series: MX215, MX255, MX285, 225, 260, 290, 305
- Case IH Puma, Maxxum, and Optum Series
Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the flow control knob and the armrest control panel for physical damage or liquid intrusion.
Wiring & Connector Check: Access the underside of the armrest console. Check the wiring harness and the connector plugging into the 1st remote flow potentiometer for loose pins, corrosion, or chafed wires shorting to ground.
Component Isolation (Swap Test): Swap the electrical connector from the 1st remote potentiometer with the connector for the 2nd or 3rd remote potentiometer. If the fault code changes to the corresponding remote (e.g., 11091 for the 2nd remote), the potentiometer is confirmed dead. If the 11081 code persists, the issue is in the wiring harness or the Armrest Controller itself.
Calibration Check: Attempt to recalibrate the EHR switches and potentiometers. On many Case IH models, this is done by holding the 'PROG' key while turning the ignition on, navigating to the 'ARM' section on the A-post display, and moving the levers/dials through their full range of motion.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Turn off the tractor, apply the parking brake, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Remove control panel cover
Remove the secondary control panel cover on the right-hand armrest console to expose the underside of the remote valve controls.
Remove flow control knob
Pull off the plastic flow control knob from the top of the 1st remote potentiometer.
Remove retaining nut
Using a wrench, remove the 3/8-32 retaining nut securing the potentiometer to the armrest panel.
Disconnect and remove potentiometer
Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the failed potentiometer and remove the unit.
Install new potentiometer
Insert the new 1000 Ohm potentiometer through the panel and secure it with the retaining nut.
Install flow control knob
Press the flow control knob back onto the potentiometer shaft.
Reconnect harness and reassemble
Reconnect the electrical harness and reassemble the armrest console.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position.
Perform calibration
Perform the Armrest/EHR calibration procedure via the tractor's display monitor or A-post to ensure the Armrest Controller learns the voltage sweep of the new potentiometer.
