11142

Case IH 11142 – Auxiliary Valve Controller (Remote Controller): 2nd remote TIMER potentiometer SENSE is failed high.

Issue description

The controller is receiving a signal voltage from the remote valve's timer potentiometer that is above the maximum expected threshold. This condition is typically caused by an internal failure of the potentiometer (a "dead spot" or short), a broken/open ground wire, or the sensor signal wire being shorted to a power source (like a 5V or 12V reference).

Applies to these machines

  • STX Steiger
  • Case IH Steiger / Quadtrac series
  • Case IH Magnum series
  • Case IH Puma and Maxxum series

Check the cause

  1. Use the tractor's A-post display or Pro700/Pro1200 monitor to view live diagnostic data for the armrest inputs and check if the timer potentiometer voltage is locked at maximum (usually 5V).

  2. Remove the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness leading to the timer potentiometer for pinched wires, rubbed insulation causing a short to power, or a loose ground pin.

  3. Temporarily swap the electrical connector from the faulty timer potentiometer to an adjacent, known-good remote timer potentiometer to see if the fault follows the component.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Disassemble the Armrest

Remove the retaining screws on the armrest console to lift the cover and access the underside of the remote valve control levers and timer dials.

  3. Remove the Faulty Component

Disconnect the electrical pigtail from the failed timer potentiometer. Pull off the external timer control knob/button. Unbolt the retaining nut holding the potentiometer to the armrest housing and remove the unit.

  4. Install the New Part

Seat the new potentiometer into the housing, tighten the retaining nut, and press the timer knob back onto the shaft. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Reassemble

Carefully reinstall the armrest cover, ensuring no wires are pinched in the process.

  6. Calibrate the Armrest

Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position. You must perform a remote valve calibration so the controller can learn the voltage sweep of the new potentiometer. (On many models, this is done by holding the PROG key on the A-post while turning the key ON, navigating to the "ARM" menu, and cycling the remote controls as prompted).
